Video: Robot goes viral for failing to imitate Messi and Ronaldo

While some fear that the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) could lead to humans being replaced across various fields, this robot’s performance suggests such concerns may still be premature.

Social media users have been sharing a video of an AI-powered soccer robot that failed to shoot a football like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, prompting a heavy wave of mockery.

According to The Sun newspaper, engineers developed the machine hoping it could kick a ball better than Argentina’s famous footballer Messi or Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo ever could.

In the footage, the robot was positioned at one end of a soccer pitch, with the ball placed in the center, the plan was for the robot to run toward the ball and strike it.

The robot began what looked like a promising attempt, only to fail spectacularly at the moment of impact, crashing onto the pitch.

Its dramatic fall was reminiscent of the infamous tumble taken by Brazilian star Neymar during the 2018 World Cup.

The comment section quickly turned into a place for mockery and jokes. One wrote, “And they said robots will take over our jobs.”

Another joked, “And this guy is supposed  to end the world?”
