Video: Woman finds scorpion inside Shein package

In the last couple of days, Shein made headlines and went viral across social media after a student revealed that her delivery package came with a little gift from China’s fast-fashion giant. 

A video of a live venomous scorpion moving inside one of the packages swarmed social media outlets including X (formerly known as Twitter) as the student residing in Bristol, UK moved it to an empty container with the help of her friends.

Sofia Alonso-Mossinger first thought it was a toy but was flabbergasted when the venomous scorpion started moving! She added that the experience was “pretty scary”. Sofia added that she only found out about the scorpion after unzipping the bag in question which looked like it contained boots according to the video in question.

Her flatmates also gave the scorpion some water after moving it toward a closed package which it drank immediately. At first, Sofia pointed out that they should kill it, but concluded that it was not the most humane thing to do.

Things could’ve taken a very wrong turn for Sofia because the scorpion because its sting is serious according to NCRW’s Chris Newman but no one was harmed. They didn’t give it a name but it was referred to as the “Chinese scorpion”.

Newman added, “The scorpion is Olivierus martensii, it doesn’t really have a common name other than Chinese scorpion”.

Shein reached out to Sofia to solve the issue in question while the students contacted the National Centre for Reptile Welfare which came and took the scorpion into a safer environment.

According to the BBC, the statement made by Shein said:

“After receiving the feedback, we immediately conducted an internal investigation. Our teams on the ground have checked the shipment packing process and carried out an inspection of the goods in our warehouse and have confirmed that all standard operating processes have been adhered to”.
