Trump becomes Halo’s Master Chief to celebrate end of ‘Console Wars’

In response to GameStop’s post about the end of the “Console Wars,” the White House shared an AI-generated post on X (formerly Twitter) of US President Donald Trump as Halo’s iconic character, Master Chief.

Trump appeared to be wearing Titan armor while holding an Energy Sword and saluting. Additionally, the background featured the American flag and the White House. The post captioned “Power to the Players” garnered over 38 million views on X and nearly 150,000 likes.

This comes after Microsoft announced on Friday that a remake of the original Halo will be launching on both Xbox and PlayStation, marking the end of 20 years of “console wars” and exclusivity. Halo, which was first released back in 2001, never made its way to Sony’s PlayStation.

Recently, Forza Horizon 5, a once-exclusive racing game for Xbox and PC, made its way into the PlayStation Store, leaving Xbox without many tempting exclusive games that would justify buying its consoles over a PC, PS5, or Nintendo Switch 1|2.

GameStop said in a statement, “For the past two decades, the global gaming community has been engaged in an ongoing and increasingly petty feud known as The Console Wars. Said conflict originated in the early 2000s with the release of Halo: Combat Evolved as an Xbox-exclusive title. Halo: Campaign Evolved is officially coming to PlayStation in 2026 with cross-platform play.”

The electronic retail giant added that it will remain a “Neutral Entity” and “The World’s Retail Gaming & Trade-in Destination” before declaring the “official cessation of the console wars,” marking a “new era of gaming.”

The move sparked mixed reactions on social media, with users either applauding Microsoft or describing it as the “death of Xbox.”

Others noticed that the AI-generated image made a mistake with the US flag. An X user wrote, “Not to be that guy but the flag only has 40 stars on it.”

Another added, “Time to stop letting interns run the White House account.”

Trump’s Homeland Security (DHS) also recently sparked controversy after taking to its socials and posting an ICE recruitment ad using a Halo meme.

The post captioned “Finishing this fight,” featured a Halo Titan soldier on board a vehicle with “Join the Flood, Join.ICE.GOV” written on it.

An X user wrote, “Did you get permission from @Halo to use their material for your propaganda?”

Another added, “Teaming up with the aliens to finish the fight! God whoever operates this account must be a boomer trying to be younger or something.”
