We all thought that the excellent Wind Rises which was released in 2013 was going to be Miyazaki’s last film but he surprised everybody after announcing that his next movie was coming in 2023 under the name of The Boy and the Heron.

Hayao Miyazaki is currently 83 years old so The Boy and the Heron which took the number one spot in the US Box Office is reportedly his last movie. He said in an interview that if he retires, Studio Ghibli as a whole will fall apart. Knowing how much he has a hand in the production and direction of the movies he worked on, he could be correct.

In our opinion, here are our favorite Ghibli movies:

  • Spirited Away (2001) – Oscars Best Animated Feature
  • Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989)
  • My Neighbor Totoro (1988)
  • The Wind Rises (2013)
  • Princess Mononoke (1997)
