FBI offers $50K as reward for info on murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO

The FBI is now offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information related to the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

“The FBI’s New York Field Office is assisting the New York City Police Department in seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the unknown suspect responsible for the shooting death,” the investigative agency said in a brief statement with two photographs of the suspect.

Late Friday night, New York police said they located a backpack in Central Park that may be connected to the murder and were sending it for forensic analysis.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny told reporters Friday they believe the suspect rode a bike into the park before eventually boarding a bus.

Thompson, 50, was shot and killed outside the New York Hilton Midtown hotel in Manhattan by an unknown assailant wearing a mask early Wednesday morning. Police say the gunman had been waiting outside for Thompson.

The NYPD later that day released the photos that appeared to be taken from security camera video footage.

A manhunt for the suspect has now encompassed multiple states after authorities said they believe the man seen in the photos may have used a fake ID from New Jersey when reserving a room at a New York City hostel before the shooting.

Authorities on Friday said they now believe the person of interest traveled by bus from Atlanta to New York.

Forensics experts are also now analyzing a water bottle for DNA, as well as a cell phone believed to be used by the unknown suspect, the New York Post reported. Officials previously collected bullets from the scene for analysis.

Thompson’s wife has said he previously received death threats.
