Jimmy Kimmel gains Italian citizenship amid Donald Trump war against liberal celebrities

Jimmy Kimmel secures Italian citizenship as Donald Trump’s second term sparks unrest.

Should Jimmy Kimmel leave the United States while Donald Trump is president? Maybe not, since he works on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” but by becoming an Italian citizen this year, he’s giving himself a way out if he needs to. Rosie O’Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres left the United States last fall after Trump beat Kamala Harris in the race for president. A source told The Daily Beast that Kimmel said on “The Sarah Silverman Podcast” that he could do the same thing.

Jimmy Kimmel, the comedian, revealed that he became an Italian citizen while talking about people leaving the country to get away from President Donald Trump.

When Kimmel was a guest on Sarah Silverman’s show on Friday, they talked about the state of the country during Trump’s second term. Kimmel shared the news.

“A lot of people I know are thinking about where they are going to get citizenship.” Silverman said.

“I did get Italian citizenship,” Kimmel replied.

“You do? Oh, that’s amazing,” Silverman reacted.

“I do have that. And what’s going on is—as bad as you thought it was going to be—it’s so much worse. It’s just unbelievable,” Kimmel said.

“I feel like it’s even worse than he would like it to be,” he said.

Fox News Digital asked the White House for a response, but they didn’t get back to us right away.

During the 2024 election, the late-night star fought for Democrats. He or she has been a harsh critic of Trump for many years.

Ansa, an Italian news service, says he first told people that he was Italian at an event in June at the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles.

“Thanks to my beloved grandmother Edith, whose family came from Candida in the province of Avellino,” he told the crowd at the event for the 79th Italian Republic Day, “I have just become a citizen.”

Rosie O’Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres said earlier this year that they were moving forever outside of the country after the 2024 election, which led to Kimmel’s admission.

Last week, Trump said that Kimmel’s show would be the “next” to be canceled. This comes after Stephen Colbert, another anti-Trump late-night host, said in July that his show would end in May 2026.
