Angelina Jolie shares Gaza destruction images and calls for urgent aid

Angelina Jolie has drawn fresh attention to the devastation in Gaza, sharing before-and-after satellite images while calling for urgent humanitarian assistance as winter approaches.
The Oscar-winning actress posted the images on Instagram, showing how several areas across Gaza have changed after years of conflict. The satellite comparisons include locations in Rafah, Khan Younis and Gaza City, where densely populated areas can now be seen heavily damaged or reduced to rubble.
Angelina Jolie Highlights Scale of Destruction
Jolie pointed followers toward Google Earth, saying the updated satellite imagery allows people to see the physical scale of what has happened across the territory.
She said entire neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble, while homes, schools, universities, hospitals, roads, water systems, sewage networks and other infrastructure have been damaged or destroyed.
The images appeared online shortly before Jolie’s post and quickly attracted widespread attention, with reports noting the shock expressed by social media users over the scale of the destruction visible from above.
Jolie also cited United Nations satellite analysis showing that, as of June 16, 82% of structures in Gaza had sustained damage. UNOSAT’s assessment identified 201,290 affected structures, including 134,422 classified as destroyed.
The figures provide a clearer picture of the damage than the images alone. According to the UN assessment, approximately two-thirds of the damaged structures were considered destroyed.
Winter Raises New Humanitarian Concerns

Beyond documenting the destruction, Jolie used the post to focus on what she described as the immediate needs of civilians.
She said 1.98 million people, or 94% of Gaza’s population, require shelter assistance and essential items as winter approaches. She also pointed to continuing restrictions and delays affecting the arrival of humanitarian aid and shelter materials.
Angelina Jolie stressed that the satellite images can show the physical destruction but cannot capture what it means for people to live among the ruins, the loss experienced by families who have been killed or the daily reality faced by survivors.
Her message focused on what needs to happen next: civilians need adequate shelter before winter, humanitarian assistance needs to reach Gaza at the necessary scale, and hospitals need medical supplies.
She also called for conditions that would allow people to eventually rebuild their homes, schools, hospitals and communities.
Angelina Jolie Has Previously Highlighted Gaza’s Humanitarian Crisis

This is not the first time Jolie has used her public platform to draw attention to the humanitarian situation affecting Palestinians.
Earlier this year, she visited the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing and met humanitarian workers involved in efforts to assist people affected by the conflict. Her involvement has included repeated calls for humanitarian access and greater support for displaced civilians.
The latest post comes as humanitarian agencies continue to report severe shelter and infrastructure challenges. UN reporting has also highlighted the scale of damage across Gaza, including major problems affecting water, sanitation, health services and shelter.
For Jolie, however, the satellite images are only part of the story.
The destruction can now be seen clearly from above, but her message was that the next question is whether the needs visible in those images will actually be addressed.
As winter approaches, she is calling for shelter, humanitarian aid and medical supplies to reach civilians urgently, while longer-term efforts are eventually needed to help communities rebuild.
