British man completes full length marathon run across Africa
Russ Cook, a British adventurer, achieved an amazing feat on Sunday as he completed his remarkable quest to run the entire length of Africa. Overcoming many challenges, including health scares, visa issues, and even an armed robbery, Cook reached Cape Angela in Tunisia, marking the northernmost point of the African continent.
Embarking on his epic journey on April 22 last year from South Africa’s southernmost point, Cook covered more than 16,000 kilometers (9,900 miles) Across 16 countries in 351 days. His incredible determination led him through many different landscapes, from mountains and tropical forests to the vast Sahara Desert.
Believed to be the first person ever to accomplish this feat, Cook’s monumental effort raised over £550000 (Around $695000) for charitable causes, including the Running Charity and Sandblast, which supports the indigenous Saharawis of Western Sahara.
Throughout his journey, Cook’s resilience and humor shone bright. Despite facing challenges, including a scary armed robbery in Angola,, and visa challenges in Algeria, he remained determined, pushing through Nigeria despite medical advice to slow down due to the pains he endured.
For the final leg of his journey, Cook invited supporters to join him. The celebratory end was marked with a party in Bizerte, featuring a performance by the rock band Soft Play, formerly known as Slaves.
