Trump Exceeds International Legitimacy and Imagination in Handling Gaza

Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who served a single four-year term, raced against time to dismantle the Palestinian cause, driven by his deep-rooted Zionist inclinations and colonialist ideologies that deviated from all humanitarian and political norms.

The unrealistic decisions and plans he introduced—none of which had ever been considered in any secret or public meetings—surpassed all expectations and logic. The United States, which has historically supported acts of war and genocide, not only in Palestine and Lebanon but also in Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, and the former Yugoslavia, is now attempting to entangle Arab nations in the fate of refugees in Gaza. By hinting at the liquidation of the Palestinian cause through their displacement to neighboring countries and the Gulf, the U.S. is aiding in the establishment of the Jewish state advocated by Israel’s far-right ruling faction.

This plan, which claims to return displaced individuals to Gaza after its reconstruction, is laden with deception. Israel, which controls border crossings and airspace, will not permit their return post-reconstruction. Meanwhile, the countries that might receive these refugees will bear the burden of their resettlement, ultimately being forced into becoming a substitute homeland for them.

Alongside the U.S. and Israel, European Union countries—long known for their double standards in handling humanitarian and political issues—are also covertly complicit in this forced displacement. They have historically supported the Israeli occupation with advanced weaponry and must now take swift action to resolve the crisis. Their responsibilities should include contributing to reconstruction efforts and accommodating wounded victims, similar to their response to Ukrainian casualties, where European hospitals received five million Ukrainians. Providing temporary housing and dignified living conditions until the war-inflicted destruction is repaired must also be prioritized.

Arab countries have commendably taken steps to counter the U.S.-Israeli scheme by proposing alternative initiatives that challenge Trump’s plan for Palestinian displacement. It is crucial to persist in this stance and remind the U.S., Europe, and Israel of Arab peace initiatives, including the 2002 Saudi Peace Initiative, and the commitments outlined in Arab-Israeli peace treaties.

The Arab nations must adopt a unified stance and engage the Islamic world in the decisions they agree upon, alongside BRICS nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Capitalizing on global support for the Palestinian cause’s legitimacy is essential.

The time has come for the Arab world, with its strategic significance, economic strength, vast resources, and the political acumen of most of its leaders, to establish itself as a major geopolitical force. By strengthening partnerships with Russia, China, and the African Union, Arab nations can challenge Western dominance, particularly that of the U.S. and Europe, and counter American-Israeli threats that now extend beyond Palestine, reaching numerous Arab capitals.
