Sydney Sweeney stars in the first trailer for ‘Immaculate’

Sydney Sweeney, the Emmy-nominated actress from Euphoria and The White Lotus, is taking on a new challenge in the horror genre.

She plays Cecilia, a young American nun who moves to a convent in Italy, only to discover that she is pregnant by a mysterious miracle. The first trailer for Immaculate, released by NEON on Thursday, shows the terrifying consequences of her supernatural pregnancy, as she faces evil forces and sinister secrets within the convent.

Immaculate is directed by Michael Mohan, who previously worked with Sweeney on the Amazon thriller The Voyeurs. The film also stars Álvaro Morte, Benedetta Porcaroli, Dora Romano, Giorgio Colangeli and Simona Tabasco. Sweeney is also a producer on the film, along with Jonathan Davino, Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler.

The trailer for Immaculate blends themes of religion and horror, as Sweeney’s character struggles to understand her divine destiny and the dark forces that surround her. The film promises to be a psychological nightmare, as Cecilia questions her faith, her sanity and her survival. The trailer also features haunting imagery, such as a bloody cross, a demonic baby and a creepy doll.

Immaculate is set to hit theaters on March 22, 2024, just a month after Sweeney’s other upcoming film, Madame Web, a spin-off from Sony’s Spider-Man universe, where she stars alongside Dakota Johnson. Sweeney has been busy with several projects in recent years, including the rom-com Anyone But You and the drama Reality, both released in 2023. She is also expected to return for the second season of Euphoria, which is currently in production.

Immaculate is the latest horror film from NEON, the studio behind acclaimed titles such as Parasite, Portrait of a Lady on Fire and The Lodge. The film will compete with other horror releases in 2024, such as The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, A Quiet Place Part III and Halloween Ends. Immaculate will also join the ranks of other horror films that feature nuns, such as The Nun, The Devils and The Exorcist.
