Miranda Hart thanks Selena Gomez for inspiring vulnerability during emotional ‘Graham Norton Show’ moment
Miranda Hart and Selena Gomez’s heartfelt meeting on The Graham Norton Show moved viewers to tears on Friday night.
During her appearance on “The Graham Norton Show,” which aired online on Saturday, Selena Gomez broke down in tears. Miranda Hart, an actress and comedian, informed fellow guest Selena Gomez that the latter’s candor in her Apple TV+ documentary “Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me” prompted Hart to be more candid about her own mental health difficulties in a forthcoming book.
In her new book, I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You, British comedian Hart, 51, opens out about her experiences with Lyme illness.
On Graham Norton’s BBC talk show, she hailed fellow guest Gomez for motivating her to come out about her condition. In the 2022 Apple TV+ documentary My Mind & Me, Gomez, the 32-year-old actress of Only Murders in the Building, chronicled her life and health following her diagnosis with lupus and bipolar illness.
“I must admit, it’s truly remarkable that I’m featured on Selena’s show,” Hart said to the camera. “Because it makes me quite emotional—bbecause when I saw your documentary on Apple about your illness struggles, I was thinking, ‘Do I share—iis this something I should do’—because it feels quite vulnerable sharing; it’s not something I’ve done before.”
When the two actresses joined the couch on The Graham Norton Show, Hart started praising Gomez for giving her the “courage” to write about her own health problems.
“I watched Selena’s documentary, and it gave me the courage to be vulnerable and share my feelings about my disease,” she told me. “It kept me writing.”
As the crowd roared, Gomez, apparently upset, clasped Hart’s hand. “The fact that I’m on the show with you—honestly, it’s extraordinary,” she said. “Because…to do it on film, to witness someone in the pain that I was in—ffor different conditions, but we know what a chronic condition is like, and it’s always rumbling there.” Selena’s portrayal is stunning, and I believe her talent is truly remarkable.
