Influencer Vadym Oleynik abuses turtle on video in Oman

Ukrainian fitness influencer Vadym Oleynik was recently met with widespread criticism after posting a video of himself allegedly abusing a turtle in Oman by attempting to ride it while carrying another baby turtle in his hand. 

According to his Instagram account, Oleynik is a three-time calisthenics world champion who holds three Guinness World Records. He is also a Master of Sport in combat sambo.

The influencer sparked outrage after being accused of animal abuse for filming himself trying to ride the turtle as it was captured struggling to move. Moreover, Oleynik also shared a photo of his partner sitting on the same turtle.

While online reports claim the influencer and his partner were reportedly arrested at Oman’s airport, official sources have not confirmed anything yet.

“Sometimes i’m so done with humans. Imagine being a mom and already struggling to lay your eggs, and meet this stvpid mf.”

“I have no words for this level of stupidity and cruelty.”

“The law will take its course to ensure they get fair trial . Also to make sure similar behavior don’t happen in happen in the future.”

Following backlash on social media, Oman’s Environment Authority took to X and shared a statement:

“Clarification | The #Environment_Authority has followed up on the incident shown in the circulating video involving the disturbance of sea turtles in Ras Al Jinz. The necessary legal measures have been taken against the individual concerned in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. The Authority reiterates its firm stance against any practices that may harm wildlife or threaten its natural habitats.”
