Cher files for conservatorship of son Elijah Blue Allman due to substance abuse
Cher, the legendary singer and actress, has filed for temporary legal conservatorship of her son Elijah Blue Allman, who is struggling with severe mental health and substance abuse issues.
The 77-year-old star claims that her 47-year-old son, who is the son of her late ex-husband Gregg Allman, is unable to manage his assets and is at risk of spending them on drugs.
Cher is seeking to be the sole conservator of her son’s estate, which is due to receive funds from a trust by the end of the year. She says she has worked tirelessly to get him into treatment and has always acted with his best interests in mind.
Cher, who is also the mother of Chaz Bono, told People magazine in October that she loves her son and tries to help him as much as she can.
A hearing for the conservatorship petition has been scheduled in March, according to court documents.
