Britain builds statue to honor women who wear Hijabs

A remarkable steel sculpture, dedicated to honoring Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab, is poised to make a striking debut in Birmingham, the United Kingdom’s second-largest city, according to recent reports. 

Designed by the talented artist Luke Perry, this captivating sculpture is slated to find its permanent residence in the Smethwick area of the West Midlands in October.

The hijab, a headscarf that covers the hair, neck, and sometimes the shoulders, takes center stage in this unique work of art. Towering at an impressive height of 5 meters and weighing approximately a tonne, the sculpture aptly bears the name “Strength of the Hijab.”

It features a powerful representation of a Muslim woman gracefully wearing a hijab, accompanied by a profound inscription at its base that reads, “It is a woman’s right to be loved and respected whatever she chooses to wear.”

Luke Perry, the creative force behind this remarkable sculpture, has articulated that this artwork serves a crucial purpose by providing visibility to women who wear hijabs as a symbol of their Islamic faith.

He underscored that this group of women often remains underrepresented despite their substantial presence within the community.

The selected location for this impressive creation, Smethwick, holds significance due to its vibrant Islamic community.
