Brad Pitt breaks silence after fraudsters impersonated him in a $350,000 scam
Brad Pitt, 60, has made a statement after the arrest of five individuals on fraud charges for impersonating him to mislead women on social media.
Pitt, who does not have official profiles on the platforms, expressed sorrow that fraudsters take advantage of the close connection between celebrities and their followers, emphasizing the necessity of not reacting to unwelcome online communication.
On September 23, the Spanish Interior Ministry announced the arrest of five members of a “criminal organization” accused of defrauding two women of over $350,000 by luring them into romantic relationships and requesting money transfers for investment projects.
Notably, the Brad Pitt impersonators utilized instant messaging systems to exchange messages and emails with the victims, leading them to think they were speaking with Pitt himself over WhatsApp, promising them a “romantic relationship and a shared future.”
A woman from Andalusia lost €175,000, and another from the Basque Country lost €150,000.
Celebrities, like Whoopi Goldberg, Tom Hanks, and Johnny Depp, have warned their followers about similar schemes.
In August, actress Florence Pugh rushed to Instagram to declare that she had no other accounts and asked her followers to report them.
