Mohamed Mahmoud Abdel Aziz reveals that Poussy Shalaby has lost all levels of litigation.

The legitimacy of the divorce between Poussy Shalaby and the late Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, which occurred years before his death, is still a contentious issue in the Egyptian art world. Details of the legal battle between Poussy and the late actor’s family were disclosed by his son, Mohamed Abdel Aziz.

Mohamed Mahmoud Abdel Aziz was eager to explain the family’s legal stance during the commercial break of the show “Al Hekaya” (The Story) with Amr Adeeb on MBC Masr. He confirmed that Poussy Shalaby lost all legal proceedings in the lawsuit she filed to prove her return to his late father following their divorce in 1998.

Adeeb claims that although Shalaby provided all required documentation during the trial, the Egyptian judiciary failed to rule in her favor, therefore ending the legal fight.

Poussy Shalaby filed the action in September 2023 in an attempt to establish that she was the wife of Mahmoud Abdel Aziz until his death, which would have given her a portion of the fortune.

However, after examining all of the provided proof and documentation, the son of the deceased claims that the Egyptian courts emphatically and definitively rejected this allegation.

According to Adeeb, Mohamed clarified that the official inheritance notice did not include Poussy Shalaby’s name and that all of the deceased’s assets were allocated in accordance with precise legal procedures, leaving no room for doubt or disagreement on any piece of real estate.

Adeeb cited Mohamed for elucidating the rationale behind the review. He asserted that the press would not have raised the issue if Poussy Shalaby hadn’t revived the case. To maintain their father’s honor and his illustrious artistic career, as well as to be transparent, the deceased’s sons responded and clarified the issue.

Regarding the initial divorce, which took place in 1998, some have also claimed that Mahmoud Abdel Aziz returned Poussy Shalaby during her waiting time, which is allowed by Islamic law if witnesses testify and no new marriage contract is required.

The situation started in 2023 when Shalaby chose to change her marital status from married to widow on official documents, according to the details recalled. She was shocked to see that she was labeled as divorced, though. This is because, according to witness testimony, her status was not changed once she returned to Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, and the divorce, which took place in 1998, was recorded by a notary public.
