Tim Hassan first comment on the situation in Syria: Save the detainees of Sednaya
Tim Hassan posted a number of stories on his Instagram account in his initial response to the recent events in Syria, which saw the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s government.
He reposted a detailed appeal to save the prisoners at Sednaya prison, titled “Save the detainees of Sednaya.” All parties must act immediately to address Sednaya prison. Every second counts for engineers, rescuers, and media specialists.
He mentioned a video that Syrian journalist Jamil al-Hassan uploaded in another post on the story, in which he discussed how the Syrian revolution aims to free prisoners from jail.
Tim posted the same call on Instagram, and several Syrian celebrities followed suit. Basil Khayat posted a comment on the same subject in an Instagram story, stating, “Prisons and torture chambers, what is hidden is greater.”

“All parties to Sednaya Prison must take immediate action,” stated Qusai’s message. Additionally, Samer Al-Masry posted a video that demonstrated how to look for inmates in the jail.
Sawsan Arshid, for her part, posted: “Imagine there are human slaughterhouses in Syria—real slaughterhouses for the beast and the criminal, and they were telling us what the alternative is.”
In regard to Maxim Khalil, he wrote: “For everyone who is asking and searching for the names of the detainees in Sednaya Prison, this is the link to the names documented so far.”
After recording many mass hangings at Sednaya Prison, Amnesty International dubbed the facility the “human slaughterhouse” in a 2017 report.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights noted in a July 2023 report “persistent patterns of torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment, including enforced disappearance,” within Syrian prison facilities, including Sednaya.
