Video.. Two children rescued after spending week under rubble in Libya
In the city of Derna, Libyan rescue teams achieved a remarkable feat by successfully extracting additional survivors from the rubble. This remarkable operation came after week of catastrophic flooding that swept across Libya, claiming the lives of thousands and completely submerging residential areas.
The Libyan Red Crescent shared a poignant video clip, capturing the emotional rescue of the two girls.
Wrapped in blankets, they were carefully extracted from the ruins of a building that had succumbed to the raging floods in Derna.
Their journey was far from over, as they awaited the crucial medical care that would help them on the path to recovery.
Even in the face of the daunting challenge, the glimmer of hope remains alive. There is an unwavering determination to locate more individuals who may still be alive beneath the collapsed homes and buildings, even a week after their disappearance.
The calls for the continuation of rescue operations and the refusal to lose hope persist, serving as a testament to the resilience and humanity that unite in times of adversity.
The intense rainfall associated with the Mediterranean Sea storm called “Daniel” triggered catastrophic flooding and torrents in eastern Libya at the beginning of last week.
These floods inundated regions, causing water levels to rise several meters high in the heart of Derna, resulting in the total devastation of neighborhoods and compelling residents to seek shelter in the sea.
The United Nations announced on Saturday, relying on the figures from the Libyan Red Crescent, that the death toll from the floods in the city of Derna in eastern Libya has reached 11,300 victims.
However, a spokesperson for the Libyan Red Crescent denied this toll on Sunday.
