Video: Jewish filmmaker dedicates award to Gaza

Jewish filmmaker Sarah Friedland is the talk of social media after dedicating an award she received for her film ‘Familiar Touch’ to the people of Gaza and Palestine amid the ongoing Israeli aggression on the strip since Oct. 7, 2023.

Friedland took to the stage to accept the reward at the “Luigi De Laurentiis” in Venice and said, “I am accepting this award on the 336th day of Israel’s Genocide in Gaza and 76th year of occupation. I stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine in their struggle for liberation.”

She added, “I believe it’s our responsibility as film workers to use the institutional platforms through which we work to redress Israel’s impunity on the global stage,” as she received a round of applause from the audience watching the ceremony and praises from pro-Palestine activists as users on X (formerly known as Twitter). v

‘Familiar Touch’ covers the story of an elderly lady and her experience with Dementia and how it affects her and the people around her. IMDB describes the film as:

“An octogenarian woman transitions to life in assisted living as she contends with her conflicting relationship to herself and her caregivers amidst her shifting memory, age identity, and desires.”

Users took to X as they applauded Sara for her bravery and for speaking the truth about what’s been going on in Palestine for 76 years and counting under the occupation regime of Israel since 1948.

“This is the reason we should separate Judaism from the pernicious evil called Zionism. The Zionists are all about power and subjugation, and that is why the current Tel Aviv cabal with the backing of Washington is carrying out a genocide with utter impunity.”

“Long live Palestine. Even some Jews know what Israel is doing is barbaric and inhumane and some dumbfucks in other countries are supporting them.”

“Very brave.”

Hamas announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called “Al-Aqsa Flood” against Israel making it the biggest offensive by the group in decades.

Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip, captured military bases, and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel while others were seen paragliding into occupation territory.

In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Since October 7, more than 40,939 have been killed by Israeli airstrikes across the besieged strip, more than half of whom are children and women, the Ministry of Health reported. Additionally, 94,616 Gazans have been injured, with injuries varying between mild and severe.
