Uzumaki anime producer reveals reason behind Episode 2 downgrade
It seems like Junji Ito is not spared from receiving horrible anime adaptations of his work with episode two of Uzumaki spiraling and getting a massive downgrade in production compared to its first episode.
An executive producer revealed that they were “Screwed over” in production and were given three options including not finishing the episode and calling it a loss, leaving the anime incomplete with just one episode, or airing it all with its problems.
It’s a shame as the first episode was absolutely stunning due to its monochromatic manga style and excellent visuals which complimented Junji Ito’s original work well, despite being 3D which isn’t Japan’s expertise in the animation industry due to projects like the Berserk anime.
Uzumaki anime producer reveals reason behind Episode 2 downgrade
A user on X (formerly known as Twitter), shared a screenshot and claimed that they were definitely screwed over because both the studio and staff changed in the second episode of Uzumaki.
The first episode was animated and produced by Fugaku Studio while the second was done by Akatsuki Studio.
Episode Two’s visual downgrade quickly had fans discussing the issue at hand after it aired on Adult Swim and anime streaming sites. Users expressed their disappointment in the episode and wrote:
“This is sad because episode one was gas”.
Another added, “It was only 4 episodes, how much more time and budget they needed, they delayed 5 years” and someone responded with, “Not a great excuse BUT they were right in the Covid production slump, which hit Japan extra hard”.
“I blame Jason Demarco who was the main guy overseeing the project. It was his job to see that resources were allocated properly and they met their deadlines. He quite literally spent the production time and budget on the first episode”.
