UN Force in Lebanon says artillery shell hit its West Sector headquarters
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said that an artillery shell hit its West Sector headquarters in Southern Lebanon’s Shama on Thursday.
The artillery shell failed to explode, causing some damage but no injuries.
Italy later said an artillery shell hit its contingent in the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, and Israel said it would investigate.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani spoke with his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Saar, to protest the attacks on Italian personnel and infrastructure in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, according to a statement.
Tajani emphasized the need to ensure the safety of UNIFIL soldiers and condemned the attacks as “unacceptable.”
