Tehran says US fighter jet downed, search under way

A US fighter jet has been shot down over Iran, state media says, adding that the US military is trying to conduct a search and rescue operation in central Iran. An unnamed US official has confirmed the news with Reuters.
After destroying a major bridge in Iran, US President Donald Trump pledges more strikes on civilian facilities and power plants, despite warnings of possible US war crimes. President Masoud Pezeshkian calls Trump’s threat an admission of intent to commit a ‘massive war crime’.
How the US and Israel are waging war on Iran’s medicines, vaccines
The US and Israel have carried out multiple attacks on medical facilities in the course of their war on Iran.
On Thursday, Iran’s President Pezeshkian appealed to international health organisations to respond to attacks on medical facilities in Iran, including the Pasteur Institute in Tehran, a key centre that Iranian officials said had been targeted that day.
One killed, several injured in fire at UAE’s Habshan gas facilities
One Egyptian national has been killed in a fire on the UAE’s Habshan gas facilities that was caused by debris from an intercepted attack, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office.
It added that four others – two Pakistanis and two Egyptians – were injured.
The media office said that fire has now been contained and that the facilities suffered significant damage.
Turkiye raises electricity and gas prices
Turkiye has raised retail electricity prices for households by 25 percent due to higher production and distribution costs, and has also increased natural gas prices for households by the same amount on average, state energy company BOTAS says.
Natural gas prices rose by 18.61 percent for industrial consumers and 19.42 percent for power plants, while electricity tariffs were also increased by 17.5 percent for low-voltage public and services sector users, 5.8 percent for medium-voltage industrial consumers and 24.8 percent for agricultural users.
Tehran could seek to capture missing US pilot
Miles Caggins, a senior fellow at the New Lines Institute, says the reported downing of a US fighter jet over Iran is a significant development for US military operations.
“All fighter jets are critical machinery, but more important are the pilots,” he said, noting that the incident has triggered a combat search and rescue operation.
Caggins said US pilots are trained for such scenarios, including how to survive behind enemy lines and evade capture.
It has been reported that one pilot has been rescued by the US, while another remains missing.
Meanwhile, he added that multiple US aircraft have been shot down during the conflict, although such assertions remain contested. Analysts say Tehran would likely seek to use any captured pilot as a propaganda tool and potential leverage in negotiations with Washington.
Iran-linked threats raise fears of attacks on American assets in Lebanon
The situation in Lebanon continues to escalate.
These strikes that happened in Beirut happened very close to one another. Israel claims it is targeting Hezbollah infrastructure. There is also this warning from the US embassy for Americans to leave Beirut.
The American University is presumably under threat of an attack by the IRGC.
We’ve seen Iran is able to launch rockets and missiles into the surrounding countries. And now we’re seeing the possibility of Iranian attacks on American assets and infrastructure here in Lebanon. This would be a huge change and shift in the Iranian policy.
Iran has been trying to manage its support base here in Lebanon by not actually targeting areas here, where it has a huge support base through various political movements and Hezbollah. But if this happens, this will definitely be a huge escalation in terms of dragging Lebanon further into this conflict.
One plot rescued from downed US jet
Reuters news agency, citing an unnamed US official, is reporting that one pilot from the downed jet has been rescued.
There is still no confirmation from authorities in the US about the incident.
