Taylor Swift donates $100,000 to family of woman killed at Chiefs parade
Taylor Swift has shown her generosity and compassion once again by donating $100,000 to the family of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a Kansas City radio DJ who was killed in a mass shooting at the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade on Wednesday.
Lopez-Galvan, 44, was one of the 21 people who were shot and wounded in the shooting that occurred outside Union Station, police said. She was the host of a Latin music program, “Taste of Tejano”, on KKFI 90.1 FM, a local community radio station. She was also a mother of two young children and a beloved figure in the Kansas City music scene.
A GoFundMe page was set up by her family to help cover the funeral expenses and provide financial support to her husband and kids. On Friday morning, Swift made two donations of $50,000 each on the page, along with a heartfelt message: “Sending my deepest sympathies and condolences in the wake of your devastating loss. With love, Taylor Swift.”
Swift’s representative confirmed to ABC News that the singer made the donation. Swift has a personal connection to the Chiefs, as she is dating their star tight end Travis Kelce. The couple attended the Super Bowl together in Las Vegas, where Swift performed for three nights on her “Eras” tour.
Swift’s donation helped the GoFundMe page surpass its initial goal of $75,000 and reach over $260,000 as of Friday afternoon. Many other donors expressed their gratitude and admiration for Swift’s gesture, as well as their condolences and prayers for Lopez-Galvan’s family.
Lopez-Galvan’s brother, Beto Lopez, told ABC News that his sister was “the life of the party” and “loved her family”. He said he was at the parade with her, but in a different area, when the shooting happened. “We woke up this morning excited and the last thing we ever expected was to have a tragedy in our family,” he said.
Lopez-Galvan’s sister, Carmen Lopez-Murguia, said she was in good spirits at the parade. “She was just really happy to be there,” she said. “We did not expect the day to end like this.”
The Kansas City police are still investigating the motive and circumstances of the shooting. Two juveniles have been charged in connection with the incident, on gun-related and resisting arrest charges, according to a Jackson County family court statement.
Half of the victims were under the age of 16, with the youngest being just 8 years old.
