Syria celebrates freedom: Stars and citizens rejoice as regime falls
Asala, who has been an advocate of the Syrian revolution for 13 years, wrote, “God is generous, and God is merciful, and I had no doubt about the justice of the sky; thank God Syria is free,” in a comment on an old video of her discussing her support for the revolution and the new Syrian flag. She then went back and posted the Syrian revolution flag on her Instagram account.
And since Kinda Alloush is regarded as one of the key figures of the Syrian opposition, she was seen crying in a photo with her husband, Amr Youssef, celebrating the overthrow of the Syrian dictatorship.
“He was a lion against us; he ran, reserving the right to respond,” expressed Maxim Khalil’s delight. Known for his staunch opposition to the regime, he posted a collection of stories on his Instagram account with the message, “Be happy Syria is free again.”
“Syrians, are you ready to tour some of our beautiful country?” Yara Sabri, who left Syria with her family years ago due to her anti-regime views, shared this message on social media. They are inseparable and deeply connected.
On his official Facebook page, Ayman Zidan expressed regret for his previous positions, stating, “I openly admit my delusions.” Perhaps the culture of dread imprisoned us. I sincerely regret what I saw and thought.
Samer Ismail, who posted a picture of his hometown of Homs and appeared in a live Instagram broadcast with his kids, said, “Congratulations to all Syrians; this moment we have been waiting for for years, we want to return to Homs and celebrate with all our friends who were outside and were unable to return.” He also added, “I have been silent for 13 years; I have not done anything related to supporting this regime.”
One of the most well-known opponents of Bashar al-Assad’s government, Abdul Hakim Qatifan, was ecstatic when a video of him dancing in celebration of the regime’s overthrow went viral.
Samer Al-Masry posted an emotional video to his Instagram account, saying, “Wait for me, Mom, wait for me; finally I will be able to see you, Mom. 14 years—congratulations, Syria—congratulations.”
Amal Arafa, one of the celebrities who posted a message on the overthrow of the Syrian government, wrote, “Congratulations, new Syria,” while Abed Fahd wrote, “Ammar, Syria, Ammar, hand in hand, we will build a new future without fear; we will live in a homeland for all.” Ayman Abdel Salam, Nour Ali, Basil Khayat, Qais Sheikh Najib, and Moatasem Al-Nahar participated in a live Instagram broadcast, crying and declaring, “I was one of the first people to be in the demonstrations, but unfortunately we were not able to speak.”
