Steven Spielberg talks about Gaza and anti-Semitism for the first time
Amercian filmmaker and director Steven Spielberg has recently made headlines after talking about the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza since Oct. 7 for the first time in a speech at the 30th anniversary of the USC Shoah Foundation.
According to The Guardian, Steven Spielberg denounced the “global rise of anti-Semitism” and said during his speech, “Those who can not remember the past are condemned to repeat it. I am increasingly alarmed that we may be condemned to repeat history – to once again have to fight for the very right to be Jewish.”

He also added, “The echoes of history are unmistakable in our current climate. The rise of extremist views has created a dangerous environment, and radical intolerance leads a society to no longer celebrate differences but instead conspire to demonize those who are different to the point of creating ‘the Other’… This is happening alongside anti-Muslim, Arab, and Sikh discrimination. The creation of ‘the Other’ and the dehumanization of any group based on their differences, is the foundation of fascism.”
During his speech, he referred to the Palestinian resistance army known as Al-Qassam Brigades under Hamas as “Terrorists” amid the Oct. 7 concert incident but also spoke about the ongoing killing of innocent Palestinian women and children in Gaza.
The Guardian added that Spielberg has widely avoided talking about the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza despite being one of Hollywood’s most prominent Jewish figures.
Gaza Now
By the time of writing this article, the Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Strip since Oct. 7 resulted in the killing of at least 32,414 and the injuring of more than 74,787 Palestinians of whom are children and women.
Moreover, at least 27 Palestinian children passed away from malnutrition because of the limited supply of food and water they were receiving from outside aid.
