Sophie Turner opens up about divorce from Joe Jonas: navigating trauma and finding support from Taylor Swift
Eight months after splitting with Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner of Game of Thrones has revealed the “traumatic” internet repercussions she experienced and how Taylor Swift gave her a “safe space.”
Sophie Turner is still dealing with the fallout from her divorce, recalling the barrage of allegations that surfaced after their split, including the one that said she would much rather party and stay up late than be a mother of two.
“I mean, those were the worst days of my life,” Sophie, who is the mother of three-year-old Willa Jonas and 22-month-old Delphine Jonas, told British Vogue in an interview published on May 15. I remember thinking, “They hired me to stay on set.” My kids were in the US, and I couldn’t get in touch with them, so I was on set for another two weeks. And then all of these articles began to appear. I’m totally tormenting myself for every move I make as a mother, which is painful. “I told myself, ‘None of this is true,'” she said. Good mommy, you are.
In a joint statement on September 6, 2023, one day after Joe Jonas filed court papers to break his marriage to Sophie Turner, the pair said, “After four great years of marriage, we have jointly chosen to end our marriage peacefully.” Though numerous theories abound, this is a unanimous choice.” We genuinely and sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
But things quickly took a different course when Sophie sued Joe for “unlawfully retaining” their kids in New York City “from their usual place of residence in England.”
Later, having come to a custody arrangement with her ex-husband Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner dismissed the case. “I didn’t know if I was going to make it some days,” she added. ‘I can’t do this,’ I would tell my attorney over the phone. I’m not up to it. She reminded me that I was battling for my kids, not for myself, after two weeks of being a disaster. For them, do it. Though I won’t be doing it myself, I will find the strength for them.”
