Selma Blair under fire amid Islamophobic comments
American actress Selma Blair is under fire among Muslims on social media platforms after making Islamophobic comments on a video of a Syrian Jewish refugee.
According to Middle East Eye, Blair said “Deport all these terrorist-supporting goons,” and “Islam has destroyed Muslim countries and then they come here and destroy minds. They know they are liars. Twisted justifications. May they meet their fate,” causing quite a stir on the internet which later resulted in an apology by the American actress.

In response to her Islamophobic comments, Selma Blair said “This is a time of great pain and anguish for many around the world, but it is also a time to learn and better understand how words matter.”
She added “In this instance, I erred in my writing and I fully recognize how I contributed to the Muslim community being understandably very upset. I respect and love all peace-loving communities, all over the world”.
“I apologize to those in the Muslim community who I offended with my words. I apologize to my friends. And I apologize to anyone I hurt. And I will do better.”
As reported by the Middle East Eye, The video in question which Blair commented on had immigration reform advocate, Abraham Hamra criticizing Representatives Cori Bush and Rashida Tlaib for voting against a bill aimed at stopping immigration to the US by people involved in the Israel-Hamas war since Oct. 7, 2023.
The ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza has resulted in the killing of more than 28,000 Palestinians of whom includes children. Additionally, more than 66,000 were also injured by the time of writing this article.
This naturally caused controversy and had pro-Palestine activists slamming the American actress further.
The Council on American–Islamic Relations responded to Blair
In response to Blair’s comments, the Council on American–Islamic Relations condemned her Islamophobic comments and told the actress to talk to the American Muslim community to educate herself on the matter further.
Ahmed Mitchel stated “No one is born a bigot, and we should never assume that someone is doomed to remain a bigot,” Cair national deputy director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said.
“Based on the hateful and ignorant remarks that Ms Blair made, we doubt that she has ever engaged in any meaningful interactions with her Muslim colleagues in Hollywood or other members of the American Muslim community.”
