Sean “Diddy” Combs has reportedly been placed in solitary confinement following a physical altercation with another inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Fort Dix in New Jersey, where the music mogul is serving his federal prison sentence. The reported incident marks the latest development in Combs’ ongoing legal saga, which has kept him behind bars since his conviction on prostitution-related charges in 2025.

According to ABC News, the confrontation began after another inmate allegedly made a remark toward Combs, triggering a fight inside the prison. Sources familiar with the incident told the outlet that correctional staff quickly intervened and separated the two men before placing Combs in solitary confinement. Officials have not disclosed whether the isolation is temporary or whether it could become a longer disciplinary measure.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons declined to discuss the specific circumstances surrounding the incident. In a statement, a spokesperson said the agency does not comment on “conditions of confinement, disciplinary matters, or other information regarding individual inmates” because of privacy, safety and security concerns. As a result, no official details have been released regarding the severity of the altercation, whether either inmate was injured, or whether additional disciplinary action is under consideration.

Combs, 56, is currently serving a 50-month federal sentence at FCI Fort Dix after a high-profile trial in Manhattan federal court. A jury found him guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the federal Mann Act. Prosecutors alleged that Combs arranged interstate travel connected to drug-fueled sexual encounters involving former girlfriends and male sex workers, events that became widely known during the trial as “freak offs” or “hotel nights.”

While jurors convicted Combs on the prostitution-related counts, they acquitted him of the more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. Those acquittals spared the music executive from the possibility of a significantly longer prison sentence. Nevertheless, the conviction resulted in a sentence of just over four years in federal custody.

Combs began serving his sentence at FCI Fort Dix in October 2025 after being transferred from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. At the time of his arrival, he was reportedly assigned to the prison’s special drug treatment program unit rather than the general prison population, a placement his legal team had requested because successful completion of the programme could reduce the amount of time he spends behind bars.

His legal team continues to challenge both the conviction and the sentence before the U.S. Court of Appeals. Defence attorneys argue that the trial judge improperly relied on allegations connected to charges for which Combs was ultimately acquitted when determining his sentence. The appeals court heard oral arguments earlier this year but has not yet issued a ruling.

According to recent reports, Combs’ projected release date is currently February 23, 2028, although it remains unclear whether the reported prison fight or any resulting disciplinary action could affect that timeline. Neither Combs’ representatives nor prison officials have publicly commented on the latest incident beyond the limited information provided through official channels.
