Saudi Arabia prepares to open alcohol store for first time
Saudi Arabia is getting ready to launch its inaugural liquor store in the capital city, Riyadh, the store will be dedicated solely to non-Muslim diplomats, said.
According to a report by Reuters, a source familiar with the plans has disclosed that customers interested in purchasing alcohol will need to go through a stringent process.
Prospective buyers are required to register via a mobile app, obtain a clearance code from the Foreign Ministry, and adhere to monthly quotas for their alcohol purchases.
The store, situated in Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter, a district populated by embassies and diplomats, will exclusively cater to non-Muslim diplomats.
The initiative is in line with the broader goals outlined in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a transformative plan aimed at diversifying the country’s economy and reducing its reliance on oil revenue.
The document detailing the plans emphasizes that access to the alcohol store will be “strictly restricted” to non-Muslims.
