Prince Harry speaks out on divorce rumors with Meghan Markle

Prince Harry responds to rumors regarding his marriage to Meghan Markle. “We’ve reportedly gone through ten divorces.”

When asked how he responds to rumors about his wife, Meghan Markle, and their relationship, especially recent claims about their distinct business pursuits, Prince Harry took a direct approach to the topic during The New York Times’ 2024 DealBook Summit.

The 40-year-old Duke of Sussex took the stage in New York City on December 4th to join Andrew Ross Sorkin, the founder of Dealbook and a NYT columnist, for a comprehensive discussion about disinformation, the mainstream media, and initiatives to make the digital world a safer place.

At the conclusion of the conversation, 47-year-old Sorkin questioned Prince Harry about how he handles the public’s interest in every facet of his life, which harshly spotlights his personal relationships while simultaneously highlighting the admirable causes he supports.

I found you on Google and found that people were always fascinated by your work. With apparent reference to the Duchess of Sussex’s scheduled solo appearance at the Paley Honors gala in Beverly Hills on December 4, Sorkin remarked, “They’re fascinated by Meghan being in California right now, and you’re here.” Furthermore, numerous articles have been published asking, “Why are you creating and hosting independent events?” Why don’t you collaborate on these events?

“Just because you invited me, you should have known!” When Prince Harry interrupted, the audience laughed heartily.

Then Sorkin said, “That’s right. Do you think that’s typical? They say, ‘Well, what is happening with these two, right?’ As soon as they see an article explaining that you’re in New York and she’s in California, their curiosity is piqued. Is the fact that so many people are interested in you, in a sense, a plus for you?

The Duke of Sussex, who grew up in the royal spotlight as the son of the late Princess Diana and the future King Charles, emphasized that the attention was “definitely not a good thing.”

“No, that’s definitely not a favorable situation.” It seems like we’ve moved or purchased a home ten or twelve times. It appears that we have also been divorced perhaps ten or twelve times. Thus, it’s simply like, “What?” Prince Harry laughed as he spoke.

You simply kind of disregard it because it’s difficult to keep up with. “The trolls are the people I feel the most sorry for,” he added. “They continue to build their hopes, saying, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ only to have them never materialize.” I therefore feel awful for them. I really do.

Prince Harry acknowledged that he had “no doubt” that his discourse with Sorkin “will be spun or twisted somehow against me, and maybe you yourselves will be trolled relentlessly.”

Prince Harry remarked, “For that, I can only apologize, but you did invite me, so it’s not my fault,” to laughter from the crowd.
