Prince Harry and Prince Charles relationship hits new low amid security concerns
According to an insider who spoke with ET, tensions have been rising between the Duke of Sussex and the royal family ever since Prince Harry visited his father in February after his cancer diagnosis and his recent interview with ITV.
“Prince Harry’s relationship with his father has hit a new low,” the source adds, adding that their meeting earlier this year was not hostile but did last barely an hour due to scheduling conflicts, and that Harry has since been unable to arrange any time to see Charles.
Harry also made it plain that he and Meghan Markle would not go back to the UK until they have the personal security they lost when they left royal responsibilities in 2020, along with their two children, Lilibet, who is three years old, and Archie, who is five years old.
They have not reunited, the source claims, since Harry’s security requirements have caused tension between his father and son. Additionally, the source claims that Harry is very worried about the safety of his family after Princess Diana’s murder and believes that his father can provide him with the necessary support.
Prince William, Harry’s elder brother and future king, and the contentious book he wrote about their troubled relationship have all played an important role in widening the gap.
A reliable source has revealed that the family’s distrust of Harry and Meghan stems from a combination of concerns about security and Harry’s best-selling biography.
In a one-on-one interview with ITV last week, Harry said that his family ties have taken a hit because of his legal fights with British newspapers.
The legal struggle between Harry and the Mirror newspapers is the focus of the program, Tabloids on Trial. January saw Harry reach a settlement with the Mirror Group publications over his hacking lawsuit.
Harry and Meghan will appear on CBS Sunday Morning for an interview that will mark their first joint special since 2021, following their most recent effort to protect children on social media.
