Phasmophobia is getting a horror feature film by Blumhouse

The popular horror game, Phasmophobia, which took the gaming world by storm on release after introducing a new mechanic that allowed players to contact ghosts using their microphone, is officially getting a feature film, developed by horror giant, Blumhouse Productions.
The news sparked widespread excitement among the game’s fans due to the studio’s track record of producing horror films, including The Black Phone, M3GAN, the adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s, and many more. It’s worth noting that both Five Nights at Freddy’s and The Black Phone are getting a sequel this year.
Additionally, Blumhouse is working hand in hand with Atomic Monster and Kinetic Games to bring the film to life. However, an official distributor is yet to be announced, according to Variety.

Phasmophobia’s official X page (formerly known as Twitter) took to the social media platform and wrote, “Today we are excited to announce that a feature film adaptation of #Phasmophobia is officially in development by horror film powerhouse, @Blumhouse.”
A social media user wrote in excitement, “Blumhouse + Phasmophobia = a match made in horror heaven!”
Another added, “If I don’t hear the main character say, ‘Are you here, are you close? Are you pizza?’ I’m not watching.”
The game launched on Valve’s Steam store in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when many people were stuck at home. Its popularity surged thanks to its innovative co-op system, which let friends socialize through voice chat while exploring haunted locations and encountering paranormal entities.
According to Variety, the game sold more than 23 million copies globally and won the “Best Debut Game” at The Game Awards in 2020.
This film marks Blumhouse’s second live-action adaptation of a popular horror game franchise, with its first being Five Nights at Freddy’s, which, despite its mixed reviews, grossed $297.2 million worldwide in contrast to its $20 million budget.
