Payday 3 studio to potentially remove online-only requirement
Starbreeze’s Payday 3 launched on Sept. 21, 2023, with users rating the game ‘Mostly Negative’ on Steam and 1.5/5 on Xbox Game Pass by the time of writing this article.
The decision to make Payday 3 online-only with major server issues on day one left a sour taste in gamers’ mouths.
Although the game is meant to be played with friends and online players in coop mode, people believe that they should have the choice of playing with AI bots in offline mode without needing an internet connection.

Even though we genuinely believe that Payday 3 is a fantastic game, we, unfortunately, encountered server problems that made it difficult for us to find a match to fully enjoy it.
On the other hand, we did witness some kind of improvement with the recent updates that Starbreeze put up.
Starbreeze to potentially remove the online-only requirement for Payday 3
According to VGC, Starbreeze is potentially thinking of reducing or fully removing the online-play-only feature in the future.
Starbreeze came out with a statement to address the issues and said:
“We’re already seeing positive trends after the first maintenance this morning, but you may still experience some problems while matchmaking. The team is still monitoring the situation.
How does it feel for you, heisters? Noticing any improvements?”
More comments were made by the developer:
“Payday 3 matchmaking infrastructure has not performed as tested and expected,” the statement reads.
“Matchmaking software encountered an unforeseen error, which made it unable to handle the massive influx of players. The issue caused an unrecoverable situation for Starbreeze’s third-party matchmaking partner.
“The issue in question did not manifest during Technical Betas or Early Access due to the specificity of rapid user influx and load-balancing. Starbreeze is currently evaluating all options, both short- and long-term.
