One Piece animator slams AI artist amid Luffy illustration
An animator named José B. Rebolledo who recently worked on Toei’s One Piece anime slammed an AI “artist” after they posted a “poorly” illustrated Luffy through artificial intelligence commands.
AI “artist” Oscar Bartolome took to X (formerly Twitter) and said after posting his generated illustration, “Not even in your dreams would you be able to make an illustration like this” to which José replied “I can do better, I can animate it. Because I’ve been animating for One Piece you idiot!”

José B. Rebolledo states on his official X account that he’s currently working as a Senior FX Animator in Flying Bark which is an animation studio located in Sydney, Australia.
Despite Japan not employing many foreign animators in the past, talented individuals such as José, Bahi JD, Rocketboi Art, Thomas Romain, and many more managed to break through the anime industry!
After slamming Oscar Bartolome, José attached an image from the One Piece anime showing evidence that he worked on the show:
Many artists are vocal about being against the usage of AI in art because, at the end of the day, these images are generated from people’s work which they spent their entire livelihood perfecting and crafting so it’s normal for artists to demand the implementation of copyright laws for protection.
Senior Storyboard Artist at Riot Games, Jon Lam is very vocal about protecting artists from AI on his LinkedIn account:
“All of our Data being stolen by Big Tech, to horde, profit off of, eliminate jobs, continuing discriminatory algorithms are forms of colonization.”
