Microsoft kills Hi-Fi Rush then says it wants games like it

Microsoft lead Matt Booty is under fire among the gaming community after saying that the company needs “smaller games that give us prestige and awards” only a day after the killing of Tango’s excellent and unique Hi-Fi Rush, according to The Verge.

Users across social media took to platforms such as X (formerly known as Twitter) and voiced their anger about the matter as Hi-Fi Rush was truly one of those launched exclusively for Xbox and PC Game Pass in 2023. Here’s what some had to say about the matter:

YouTuber and voice actor Yong Yea stated, “Nah no way. There’s no way head of Xbox Matt Booty told employees “We need smaller games that give us prestige and awards” just 1 day after Microsoft shut down the studio behind Hi-Fi Rush, you know, that one smaller game that gave them prestige and awards.”

Another also threw shade on Sony for dropping the studio behind the Gravity Rush franchise which was one of the most unique games players can get on the PlayStation and added:

“I will never forgive Sony and Microsoft after releasing some of their more creative/unique games like these and then deciding to completely shut down the studios behind them so they can focus on more generic hitters.”

Microsoft

Despite Microsoft stating that Hi-Fi Rush did well in sales despite rumors that the game didn’t do too well commercially. This might’ve come since both Microsoft and Tango decided to shadow-drop the game on Xbox Game Pass for both console and PC players, so it barely received any advertising.

Hi-Fi Rush was definitely a surprise release from Tango as the game studio is known for more serious yet unique games that usually send chills down people’s spines instead of making a beat-em-up rhythm game with an excellent soundtrack.
