Messages and wishes to celebrate Qatar National Day 2023

The year 2023 is near its end now, and while there is much excitement that comes with the start of a new year, for the people of Qatar, there is still something for them to look forward to this year, and it’s the Qatar National Day.

Brief background

Qatar used to be under the influence of the Bahraini Al Khalifas on the eastern seaboard of the peninsula. However, after disputes that led to uprisings against the Khalifas, eventually leading to diplomatic intervention by the British, the ruling dynasty of Sheikh Muhammed bin Thani was established, which continues to this day.

In the past, Qatar National Day was celebrated on September 3, the date on which Qatar officially gained its independence in 1971. However, the current Crown Prince, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, decided to designate December 18 2007 as the new National Day, and it has remained that way since.

The 18th of December is a special day for Qatar as it marks the day of the ascension of Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, the founder of what is modern Qatar, who succeeded his father, Mohammed bin Thani, as the ruler of the Qatari Peninsula on December 18, 1878

On Qatar National Day, the Qatari army holds the “National March” event, which includes a military parade with the Amir and other state dignitaries in attendance.

Qatar National Day is also known as the Founder’s Day, and while it takes place on the 18th of December, this year the celebrations are going to start on the 17th, making it a two-day event for people to look forward to.
