Mecca Defense Alliance holds urgent meeting, reaffirms commitment to defend Saudi Arabia

The top military chiefs of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey reaffirmed their commitment to defend the Kingdom’s security, sovereignty and territorial integrity on Friday.

An urgent meeting was held in Riyadh, bringing together the three countries as Saudi Arabia has come under repeated attacks from Iran-backed militias in Iraq and Yemen.

Friday’s meeting was to review the Mecca Defense Alliance, according to a readout of the meeting. The alliance stipulates that “an attack against any of the countries constitutes an attack against all parties.”

The military chiefs on Friday discussed ways to “immediately begin” translating their commitments into effective military cooperation.

They also commended the vigilance and professionalism of the Saudi Armed Forces in ensuring the safety of citizens and residents and the Kingdom’s security.
