Mean Girls Musical: Tina Fey’s 2024 movie remake
Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Tina Fey’s highly-anticipated Mean Girls movie musical, based on the 2004 comedy and the subsequent 2018 Broadway production.
Directed by Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne, the project was initially announced by Tina Fey in January 2020, with the official cast list revealed in December 2022.
The film stars Angourie Rice as Cady, Renée Rapp reprising her Broadway role as Regina, Auli’i Cravalho as Janis, Jaquel Spivey as Damian, Anantika as Karen, and Bebe Wood as Gretchen. Tina Fey herself takes on the role of Ms. Norbury. Additionally, Tim Meadows will return as Principal Duvall, and Jenna Fischer from The Office will portray Cady’s mother. Jon Hamm makes a special appearance as Coach Carr.
There have also been reports of possible cameos from the original Mean Girls cast, including Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert. Seyfried expressed enthusiasm, stating that they are all “100% into” making a cameo.
The original Mean Girls film, featuring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams, grossed $130 million worldwide upon its release. The 2018 Broadway adaptation received 12 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical and Best Leading Actress for Taylor Louderman’s portrayal of Regina George.
Fans can anticipate a fresh take on the classic story when the Mean Girls movie musical hits US cinemas on January 12, 2024. While the UK release date remains unknown, the stage adaptation is set to make its West End debut in June 2024.
