Large mural of Palestinian journalist Wael Al-Dahdouh in Dublin

Emmalene Blake, a celebrated street artist, recently unveiled a striking mural in the capital of Dublin. The mural captures the likeness of Wael al-Dahdouh, a correspondent for Al Jazeera stationed in Gaza.

Wael al-Dahdouh, through his reporting, has become an emblematic figure representing Gaza’s unwavering resilience in the face of occupation. His personal experiences, including the tragic loss of family members during Israeli bombardments in the region, have further solidified his standing as an icon of endurance and defiance.

Renowned for her advocacy for the Palestinian cause, Blake posted the mural images featuring Dahdouh on her official Instagram account. Alongside the images, she shared words addressed to the Palestinian journalist: “Thank you @wael_eldahdouh for relentlessly showing the world what is happening in Gaza- both the strength and humanity of the Palestinian people, and the crimes Israel is committing against them.”

“In October Wael’s family was targeted by an Israeli airstrike, and his wife Amna, daughter Sham, his son Mahmoud, his grandson Adam, as well as 8 other relatives were murdered.”

Ten days ago, Israel carried out the assassination of Wael’s eldest son, hamza_w_dahdooh, along with his friend and colleague mustafa_s_thraya. Both were journalists, tragically killed while driving in Hamza’s car to report on a prior airstrike by Israel.
