Kim Kardashian under fire after promoting ‘HIV Vampire Facials’

After American media personality Kim Kardashian promoted a new skincare beauty operation under the name of “Vampire Facials”, three women in New Mexico were diagnosed with HIV after receiving the cosmetic procedure at an unlicensed medical spa, according to the Guardian. 

The three women in question were diagnosed with the deadly virus after it was transmitted through the infected needles used during the operation at the spa leaving them with HIV. Additionally, it’s believed that the individuals are the first to be diagnosed with the virus from “Vampire facials”.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the spa was reusing disposable equipment that is intended for one-time use only from 2018 to 2023 after an investigation.

Users across social media were shocked as they always thought that “HIV is usually transmitted through sexual intercourse”, but that’s false since it can also be transmitted through needles, syringes, or other drug injection equipment according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Vampire Facials” were first popularized by none other than Kim Kardashian in 2013 after she posted a bloody selfie of herself on social media in hopes of tightening her skin since it’s considered an anti-aging procedure for cosmetic reasons only and no medical benefits.

According to Erem News, amid posting about the tanning bed, Kim Kardashian was faced with criticism from many people on TikTok including licensed dermatologists who warned the media personality about the consequences of using a tanning bed because it negatively impacts the skin and health.

Several doctors took to the comment section to point out that indoor tannin increases the possibility of cancer with squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma being the most common. In addition, the dermatologist also stated that Kim Kardashian is endangering millions of people because of her social media reach.

According to Daily Mail, a doctor said:

“This is Kim’s lack of respect for her followers. How can she promote a tanning bed, while her sister Khloe suffered from fatal skin cancer last year?”

“If your family has a history of skin cancer, your risk of developing it will increase by 74%.”
