Karate player Nagham Abu Samra Severely Injured in Israeli Airstrike on Gaza
In a tragic incident that unfolded in the Al-Nuseirat refugee camp, a rising karate athlete named Nagham Abu Samra endured severe injuries, including the loss of a leg and a serious head injury, as a result of an Israeli occupation forces airstrike on her family’s home.
The devastating attack took place as Israeli warplanes targeted the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, resulting in a staggering death toll of at least 70 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, with many more sustaining injuries.
The strikes, initiated late at night and continuing into the early hours of Monday, saw Israeli warplanes intensify their assault with more than 50 consecutive airstrikes on al-Nuseirat, al-Bureij, and al-Maghazi refugee camps.
Nagham’s father provided a harrowing account of the traumatic event that drastically altered their lives.
The promising young athlete’s experience is emblematic of the broader violence and suffering endured by the people in the region due to the ongoing conflict.
Nagam Abu Samra, the Palestinian athlete, achieved the second position in the 2017 and 2018 “Palestine Championship” at the national level and secured the first position in the Gaza Strip.
Abu Samra earned the Black Belt at a young age during the 2011 age group championships and subsequently became a member of the Palestinian national team in the discipline of combat sports.
This incident is part of a larger military and political conflict in the area, marked by continuous heavy artillery bombardment and airstrikes north of the Gaza Strip.
The enduring Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip has resulted in a significant toll, with over 21,424 Palestinians losing their lives and nearly 54,036 sustaining injuries. Additionally, more than 8,000 Palestinians are reported missing under the rubble in various areas of the Strip.
