Chapter Two takes no breaks and continues from where Chapter One left off with Chihiro and Shiba defeating the scummy gang members hired by a group called ‘Hishaku’.

According to Chihiro, they still don’t know much about the ‘Hishaku’ except that they are a mysterious group of powerful and evil sorcerers who use their powers and katanas for injustice.

After trying to question the leader of the gang for more information about his client, the man transforms into this weird and branchy monster revealing that they have put a powerful spell on him in case he decides to save himself and tell the truth.

The art in both chapters looked absolutely stunning, especially the panels with environments and Chihiro in them as seen above.

Takeru Hokazono nailed it with the contrast between black and white giving Chihiro and his katana the spotlight.

We also appreciate how Takeru transitioned to Chihiro’s saddening and dark past in the middle of chapter two giving us more on what happened with the passing of his beloved father.

The third chapter takes us three years back to introduce a new cast of characters including a hot-headed sorcerer who might be part of the ‘Hishaku’ group, a little girl named Char who he and a pub owner are following called Hinao.

This chapter acted more as an introduction for these characters, adding to Kagura Bachi’s world-building, which is not necessarily bad since a fleshed-out world is really important for the manga’s future and the characters’ development.

Both Hinao and the little girl were adorable and had chemistry the moment they interacted with each other while the mysterious sorcerer had this dark and ominous aura about him the moment he entered the restaurant that Chihiro and Char went to.

Takeru portrayed that mystery perfectly while slowly revealing the sorcerer’s face while the panels carried on.

He also showcased how brutal the sorcerer is since he stabbed two chopsticks into the restaurant owner’s neck.

Chapter Three ended with a cliffhanger just before Chihiro sheathed his sword to fight the mysterious sorcerer. With Jujutsu Kaisen ending soon, we feel that Kagura Bachi could fill in its shoes if its serialization continues.
