Jenna Ortega is NOT returning in Scream 7 amid the firing of Melissa Barrera
American-Mexican actress Jenna Ortega will not be returning to star in the seventh installment of the popular slasher Scream amid the layoff of her colleague Melissa Barrera, according to ARY News.
Deadline, on the other hand, stated in an article that the reason Jenna Ortega quit starring in Scream 7 wasn’t because Melissa Barrera was fired amid standing with the Palestinian people but due to a conflicting shooting between Wednesday and Beetlejuice 2.

Jenna is best known for starring in Netflix’s Wednesday and Spyglass’s Scream which both became a hit among horror and thriller fans alike. Scream VI had the best gross opening from any of its predecessors as it made a whopping $67 million globally and $44.4 million in the states.
The new director of the franchise Christopher Landon, posted on his official X account (formerly known as Twitter) a statement that said before deleting it:
“This is my statement: 💔 Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make.”
It’s still unknown what’s exactly going to happen to the Scream franchise after losing two of its most important characters as the sixth installment was left with an open ending.
Spyglass told Variety yesterday that their “stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
