Is the Sakamoto Days anime hate undeserved?
As anime fans gear up for a new 2025 Winter season this January, the anime adaptation for one of Shonen Jump’s best manga ‘Sakamoto Days’ is getting ripped apart on the internet due to concerns over animation quality.
This all comes in after TMS Entertainment advertised the Sakamoto Days anime across social media in a series of teasers, trailers, and posters resulting in a swarm of comments from international and Japanese fans complaining about the animation quality and casting.
One user on Musk’s X (formerly known as Twitter) wrote, “It pisses me off how many mid series are getting amazing adaptations then you got OPM S3 And Sakamoto days getting shafted with bad production.”

Moreover, the studio recently revealed the opening song by renowned Japanese singer Vaundy, which also received mixed reactions as several social media users called it “lazy” and lacking the choreography of a shonen anime.
Even before its release, Sakamoto Days is getting compared to Mappa’s adaptations of Shonen Jump’s Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man as fans of the action-packed manga expressed how the anime adaptation “deserves better” than what they’re getting.
On the contrary, many users on social media expressed how fans are being unreasonable towards TMS Entertainment since the first episode doesn’t premiere until Jan. 11, 2025.
A social media user wrote on Musk’s X, “If Sakamoto Days ends up being good…I’m never taking an anime fan’s opinion seriously again. Let’s wait till the show is out before concluding things.”
Despite not having the same production quality as Mappa, TMS Entertainment has many great shonen anime under its sleeve including Dr. Stone, Yowamushi Pedal, and D-Gray Man. It’s also behind the epic sci-fi boxing anime, Megalo Box which was created in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the iconic boxing manga Ashita no Joe.
In our eyes, It’s still too early to judge the Sakamoto Days anime since only time will tell how well the adaptation turns out. The first couple of chapters in the manga are slightly episodic and slice of life-like so don’t expect characters to come swinging in intense action sequences from the get-go.
