Former Attack on Titan editor jailed after killing wife
A beloved manga serialization company named Kodansha which is known for titles like Attack on Titan made headlines after one of its former editors was sentenced to 11 years in prison for murdering his wife after getting tried twice.
The individual in question is Jung-Hyun Park who worked as an editor for popular series including Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan and Nakaba Suzuki’s The Seven Deadly Sins. It was nearly 10 years ago that Park was accused of the heinous act of murdering his wife, but due to COVID-19 and the lockdown humanity faced, the hearing was postponed.

The incident took place in Bunkyo, Japan on Aug. 9, 2016, where Park strangled his wife Kanako.
According to Comic Book, in July 2024, Park who is 48 years old was found guilty and sentenced to prison for 11 years. Moreover, he claimed that Kanako committed suicide by hanging herself but local authorities investigations said otherwise.
The case indicated that Park threatened his wife with a kitchen knife before strangling her in the bedroom. Moreover, Park still denied the accusations and said that he did nothing wrong. Japanese judge Yaushi Handa told the NHK:
“I found there couldn’t be truth to the suicide claim made by the defense team due to medically grounded, reliable evidence. The prosecution’s evidence was very strong. It would have been difficult to overturn the defense’s claim of suicide if it hadn’t been grounded.”
Park’s mother explained how he was very caring and got along well with his wife and added, “It is too sudden and unnatural that the wife lost consciousness and then moved around so much that she made a noise, and then committed suicide.”
What are Attack on Titan and The Seven Deadly Sins?
Attack on Titan was one of the biggest manga series Kodansha has ever serialized by receiving worldwide attention for its gripping story and well-written characters. Moreover, receiving its anime adaptation by the same name added to its popularity as many deemed it the “best thing to ever hit fictional media.”
The Seven Deadly Sins is also one of Kodasnha’s big manga next to Fairy Tale which also received an anime but later fumbled in quality and storytelling due to production issues and studio changes.
