Engagement ring falls into sewer, interrupting photo shoot

Firefighters in Cleveland came to the rescue of a couple after an engagement photo disaster ended with a diamond ring inside a sewer drain.

Niki Mack and Corey Berebitsky were having their engagement photos taken by Emily Ruth at the Cultural Gardens in University Circle when the mishap occurred.

Rush pointed out that Berebitsky had something on the back of his pants, and Mack attempted to lend a helping hand.

“So I went to wipe it off, and when I wiped it off, my ring flew off, and we just heard a ‘ting,'” Mack told WEWS-TV.

The sound turned out to be Mack’s ring falling into a nearby sewer drain.

“Niki was surprisingly calm,” Berebitsky told People.com. “Myself, the first thing that goes through my head is, ‘Oh my god, we’ve been pushing off the ring resizing for so long, and of course this happens.'”

Personnel from Cleveland Fire Station 30 were summoned to the scene to rescue the photo shoot. Ruth kept snapping pictures as the firefighters opened up the sewer to retrieve the precious item.

“She did just a phenomenal job in staying calm, making sure she can get good photos of the firefighters, and then great photos of us after too,” Mack said.

The couple said they are planning to thank the firefighters with a gift.

“We’re hoping to send them something in the mail real soon too, maybe even an invitation,” Mack said.
