Officially, countries declare the first day of Ramadan 2024

Several countries around the world are gearing up to welcome the holy month of Ramadan, following the sighting of the crescent moon.

The announcement of the beginning of Ramadan has been made by various authoritative bodies, setting the stage for millions of Muslims worldwide to commence fasting and spiritual reflection.

In Australia, the Mufti of Australia, the Australian National Imams Council, the Australian Fatwa Council, and the Council for Islamic Jurisprudence and Arbitration have officially declared that Tuesday, March 12th, will mark the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan.

This announcement follows the end of the month of Sha’ban, which was declared to conclude on Monday.

Similarly, the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR) has issued statements regarding the commencement of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

According to the council, precise astronomical calculations for the crescent moon of Ramadan confirm its conjunction occurred at 09:01 GMT on Sunday, March 10th, 2024. This corresponds to the 29th of Sha’ban, 1445 AH, at 12:01 AM local time in Mecca.

As per the European Council’s determination, the crescent moon can be sighted after sunset on the 29th of Sha’ban, 1445 AH, corresponding to Sunday, March 10th.

This sighting extends over a wide area in the Americas, leading to the commencement of Ramadan on Monday, as per the ECFR’s guidelines.
