Egyptian TikTok star Suzy El Ordoneya arrested in major money laundering and cybercrime case

TikTok star Suzy El Ordoneya arrested over money laundering scandal.

The Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of content producer “Suzy El Ordoneya,” also known as “Maryam A,” in a resounding security strike against cybercrime and money laundering. One of the most significant money laundering cases linked her to the proceeds of illicit online activities on social media sites, specifically TikTok.

Punishment for Money Laundering Crimes

In this regard, attorney Noha El-Gendy clarified in a statement to “News Room” that money laundering is punishable under Egyptian law by up to seven years in prison and a fine of at least five million Egyptian pounds, or the amount of the money that was laundered, whichever is higher.

El-Gendy went on to say that the penalty is applicable if it is established that the funds’ source is unknown or that they are the result of unlawful activity. The competent authorities are also authorized to freeze and seize assets and return them to the state or the impacted parties in compliance with the law.

The Anti-Money Laundering and Organized Crime Sector’s monitoring and investigation provided the incident’s specifics. The defendant earned almost 15 million Egyptian pounds via immoral and unpleasant content that went against public values and customs, according to security officials that were able to track down the money she received from her internet activities.

According to investigations, Suzy El Ordoneya tried to hide the true source of these monies and deceive regulatory authorities by buying residential properties and using them for ostensibly lawful purposes.

According to the Ministry of Interior’s statement, the defendant Suzy El Ordoneya ran social media sites and accounts where she shared movies that flagrantly went against moral and social norms in an attempt to make enormous sums of money illegally.

While the defendant was being sent to the appropriate investigation authorities, the appropriate legal actions were taken against Suzy El Ordoneya. Anyone who uses online for purposes that jeopardize the stability of society or its fundamental principles is still being hunted down and arrested by security forces.
