Bobi, world’s oldest dog dies at 31

Bobi, the dog who was recently awarded the title of the “Oldest Dog” in the World” by Guinness World Records, passed away in Portugal at the age of 31. 

Bobi was a pure breed Rafeiro, a type of dog known for their abilities as livestock guard dogs and typically have a life expectancy between 12 and 14 years of age.

Despite being born a healthy puppy, Bobi wasn’t meant to make it past puppyhood. He was mistakenly left behind by his family who owned a large quantity of animals, and as a result, the Costa family took responsibility for him.

Over the course of his life, Bobi became a beloved pet and a well-known local landmark for the people of the village of Conqueiros in central Portugal.

He’d greet everyone who came around with an energetic tail wag, and his cheerful demeanor had a profound effect on anyone who met him. As the years went by, he kept a watchful eye over the Costa family’s livestock and became an even more treasured companion to his family.

Bobi’s owner, Leonel Costa, spoke about the passing of his beloved pet, saying: “We have better memories of a long life where he was happy and, above all, where he made a lot of people happy, especially his family”.

The Costa family was unaware that Bobi had broken the world record for the oldest dog until Guinness World Records confirmed it earlier this year in February.

After the news went public, tourists and media from around the world wanted to visit Bobi and see him for themselves. His warm aura and contented expressions captured the hearts of those he met, making him quite the famous hound for a while.

However, he stayed true to himself and maintained the delightful personality that had endeared him to so many throughout his life.

Bobi’s life is a testament to the fact that dogs can brighten anyone’s life by being a valued companion. Even though he lived much longer than expected, Bobi remained a faithful friend to those who loved him.

It’s heartbreaking to see him go, but he’s left behind countless wonderful memories, constant wagging tails, and warm smiles that won’t be forgotten anytime soon, not to mention breaking a world record and becoming the oldest dog to have ever lived.

His passing has highlighted the significance of the companionship we share with our pets and reminded us all of the joy that dogs bring into our lives.
