Billie Eilish opens up about body image, insecurities, and attraction to women

Billie Eilish, the Grammy-winning pop sensation, spoke candidly about her journey through womanhood, body image struggles, and her attraction to women in a revealing interview.

Eilish, who came into fame and flourished in the music scene at just 13 years old, addressed her decision to conceal her body early in her career.

“I wasn’t strong enough and secure enough to show it,” Eilish explained regarding her choice of baggy clothing. She clarified that it wasn’t about avoiding sexualization but rather a reflection of her insecurities at the time. “If I had shown it at that time, I would have been completely devastated if people had said anything.”

The 21-year-old artist delved into her complex relationship with her own womanhood, admitting, “Maybe my not really caring about being sexualized is because I’ve never felt desired or desirable. I’ve never felt like a woman.” She emphasized the struggle to see herself as feminine and attractive, stating, “I have to convince myself that I’m, like, a pretty girl.”

Addressing the media’s scrutiny over her body, especially after trading baggy clothes for a form-fitting tank top in 2020, Eilish asserted, “You wear something that’s at all revealing, and everyone’s like, ‘Oh, but you didn’t want people to sexualize you?’ You can suck my ass! I’m literally a being that is sexual sometimes. Fuck you!”

Eilish highlighted the double standards between men and women’s bodies, pointing out that men face less judgment and criticism. “Nobody ever says a thing about men’s bodies. If you’re muscular, cool. If you’re not, cool. If you have a dad bod, cool. If you’re pudgy, love it! Everybody’s happy with it.”

The singer-songwriter also shared her struggles with identity and feeling disconnected from other women. Despite this, she expressed her genuine attraction to women, both emotionally and physically. “I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real. I have deep connections with women in my life,” she revealed. However, she acknowledged feeling intimidated by their beauty and presence.

Amid the discussion about her personal life, Eilish touched on the challenges of fame, admitting to “impending-doom feelings most of the day.” Despite facing scrutiny about her sexuality and dating history, she has remained relatively private. Recent relationships with Jesse Rutherford and actor Matthew Tyler Vorce were mentioned, with confirmation of her split from Rutherford after eight months.
